Malaysian Fryer Oil Arbitrage
Matt Levine a genius mind that writes about finance in the most entertaining way possible. For many it might be educational as well, but for me I probably grasp about 20% of what he writes in his newsletter called Money Stuff. I will try capture some out of context quotes from his topics that can be some outrageous prediction that eventually becomes true or some deep philosophical pondering or just a silly proposition, ....., but one thing for sure, they are always fun. His famous recurring theme is "Everything is a securities Fraud"
Some from 2025-06-23 newsletter:
- Side effect of a goverment incentive where government-subsidised cooking oil is cheaper than used cooking oil
I guess the upside is that all the fried food in Malaysia tastes really fresh, but that’s not really the point of the sustainable aviation fuel regime.
- Meta poaching AI engineers with millions/billions of dollars
Imagine if the world of AI labs was divided into (1) the ones that were all about the work and (2) the ones that paid tons of money! Who would want to work at the ones that were all about the work?
- Lawsuit against Apple
If a company says “we expect to deploy AI to make our products better,” and then it’s harder than they thought: securities fraud lawsuit.
